Feature/Functionality or the ability to execute? November 14, 2007

Several years ago, I attended a trade show & got to talking with a friend who just so happened to work for a competitor. As a fellow Product Manager, I began to banter (ok, trash talk) with him about which offering (his or mine) was better. I have this bell, but he has this whistle. I have this intellectual capital, but so does he. I have x amount of customers, he has relatively the same number. Finally we quit bantering and got real, Rich said to me “You know what Paul, it doesn’t matter how many bells or how many whistles or how much intellectual capital a company has. What matters is Execution”. I agree, with all the latest & greatest that all have to offer, it doesn’t help unless it can be executed on. Your thoughts?
