I recently read an article about a choir in Singapore that was going to sing about a bunch of complaints that they had about how things were going in Singapore, but had to cancel at the last minute. The reason they had to cancel was that their demonstration license stipulated that in order to participate in the event, you had to be a citizen, and their conductor was foreign. You’re probably wondering what this has to do with e-commerce.
Well, true collaboration requires that you have a strong communication and feedback mechanism happening. So, as you’re attempting to drive collaboration throughout your supply chain, you want to make sure you’re taking a fresh look at your policies and procedures and make sure that you’ve got good clean channels for communicating goals and intentions, and also a good way to identify and resolve problems. As you look at your key partners, how often are you failing to collaborate due to a failure to communicate? How much time do you spend trying to repeatedly resolve issues that could be avoided if you just refined the communication and the process that happens prior to those issues? Overall, the gist of it was to start looking for ways to improve the communication and collaboration, solve for the root cause issues, as opposed to remaining in the constant fire fighting business.
