This morning I was reading a piece entitled Adding Green to the Picture that actually features Inovis’ own blogger and Vice President of Product and Strategic Applications, Erik Huddleston. This article is about how achieving a green supply chain may be easier than you think.

  1. Cut down paper usage, not trees: Perhaps one of the most simplistic answers to making your supply chain greener is automating your transactions and, in doing so, eliminating that paper trail. It’s all about those small steps that equal one big stride.
  2. Looking at the bigger picture: Most companies are saving gas costs and storage space with J.I.T. (just-in-time) tactics. This is a great way to save money, minimize pollution from transportation, and create a completely efficient supply chain. When using J.I.T. tactics, however, it’s essential to eliminate errors so that you don’t end up using the same amount of gas—probably even more—and end up with a whole lot of angry customers who want that m.i.a. product NOW. Enter Actionable Intelligence. By knowing what’s happening in your supply chain at that exact moment, you can avoid disruptions and errors in your supply chain, and ultimately make better decisions.
  3. What’s the score? Make sure all of your trading partners are just as eco-friendly as you—and competent—by utilizing scorecards. This article had a great idea about also incorporating scorecards that grade based on how green your practices are. A ‘green card’ for e-commerce? Brilliant!
