Believe it or not, Data Synchronization best practices have been employed by certain business sectors for nearly twenty years. While these companies have been reaping the benefits of data sync for a good while, other companies have yet to even consider a data synchronization strategy. Why? Many individuals view data synchronization as complicated, hard to implement, and a lot of effort with very little return. Others view data synchronization as inseparable from GDS (Global Data Synchronization), and feel that since globalization is not a necessary or smart move for their company, data synchronization is a waste of time, money, and effort.
A thought worth consideration is that data synchronization can be beneficial whether your company is or isn’t global. Many retailers who aren’t global use data synchronization to improve their business process with their trading partners. In fact, many businesses are using data synchronization to transact while others are looking into catalogs, portals, value-added networks, and other communication software to improve their processes. And while data synchronization may not be free, it has many perks that most would consider worthwhile. Accurate product and pricing data is exchanged, eliminating document discrepancies and errors; Payment cycles, maintenance costs and processing time are all reduced, and faster speed to market and increased on-shelf availability are gained.
