If you’ve read some of my past posts, you know that I’m the Director of Quality Assurance and am currently developing new software with SCRUM or the Agile Process, if you will. This is a departure from our old Waterfall Methodology, and we’ve so far been very pleased with our new method. One thing I’ve always wanted to ask our customers has to do with past developments and the developments we will make in the future.
In regards to our software, if you could have one thing improved, what would it be?

Ooh! OOh! (throwing My hand and arm in the air)… Pick Me! Pick ME!!!!!
One of the things that I’ve ALWAYS had an issus (albeit a minor issue!) is the “standardization” of screens - and it’s in ANY software, not just the Inovis Trusted Link (i-Series) application I currently use….
But in “Trading Partner Set up”, I’ve noticed that there is a difference in the field lengths between setting up “send” and “receive” relationship set ups. For example, on the first screen of the set up, where you enter the “document/message type and ID” fields, on one side (send, I think), you type in the required information and the system will “automatically” pop over to the next entry field. But on the other side (receive?), you have to hit the “tab” key to hit the next field.
There are probably other instances of this kind of lack of a standard field length, and it’s completely minor, to be sure. But it’s just one of those things that, much like that princess and the pea, gets under your skin and stays there…
And as the child of a programmer (from WAY back) and having helped with system testing and looking for little “issues” like this, it’s always been in My head when using ANY application…..
One of the other things I’d mentioned during a phone conference with Murray Brook, was that when I’m in the document center of TLi, there aren’t that many documents shown on the screen (7, I think) and it makes searching through a long list more difficult to only have a few docs to view. This leads to repeated hitting of the “page down” and “page up” keys.
On that note, even allowing the “HOME” and “END” keys pop you to the top or bottom of the search list would be great too…. But even easier would be allowing use of a scroll-wheel mouse (which many of us have today) to scroll through the list, just as you can scroll through all of your e-mails in MS Outlook.
