This morning I read an article entitled, “Supply Chain Companies Dread Potential Impact of Emissions Legislation.” The article is about the findings from a survey carried out by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) about the carbon reduction efforts of suppliers.
According to the article of the 144 supply chain companies that responded, only 26% of the suppliers have actual plans in place to achieve greenhouse gas reductions, while more than 58% have been tracking their emissions. 33% of the suppliers in this survey have dedicated a board member in place for dealing with climate change issues.
Another interesting statistic from this article: 96% of all of the company bosses surveyed cited emissions legislation as a major. Supply Chain business leaders also reported measuring greenhouse gas emissions as their most serious focus.
While the article is entitled “Supply Chain Companies Dread Potential Impact of Emissions Legislation,” I tend to favor the comment left at the bottom of the page by a reader named Dave. I thought David left a great comment and wanted to share:
“The real headline should say—Supply Chains that are PREPARED will LOVE legislation because they’ll be ready and less thoughtful competitors may not be. There’s heaps of money to be made improving the efficiency of supply chains…”
