Historically, if you look at Supply Chains, what organizations were thinking about is, “How can I drive down cost?” Things have changed. In today’s changing market, not only do you have to take cost out, you have to drive revenue. And when you look at that, the low cost components of the supply chain are no longer as valuable or as easy to obtain. What’s more easily obtained is a more secure, robust and low risk supply chain that allows you to drive more profitable revenue and ultimately improve your customer relationships. There’s always risk present. If you can’t fulfill those relationships and the needs that they have as your consumers, you’re certainly at risk. So, you need to look at the other side of the equation, which is your supply chain and how that, from a risk management or agility perspective, can be optimized. Visibility’s one of those key tools; on-boarding is a core requirement to get visibility.

Last week I attended a conference where I had the honor of providing an overview of the changing privacy, security and enablement requirements in Healthcare. ASCX12 has completed their final activities around the latest version of the HIPAA documents and change is in the air.
The movement to 5010 after the final review and approval process takes place, represents a challenge for providers, payors and payees alike. Not only is this being seen as an opportunity to provide improved data quality, richer content and more flexible operations from a data exchange perspective, but many organizations are looking at changing their systems and process controls as well. Some organizations are looking at changing their platforms, processes and upgrading their capabilities wholesale as part of this initiative which represents a challenge not just for their internal IT organizations, but also their business partners.

One significant technique to achieve a greater level of productivity seems to be the green method. By going green, companies are saving the environment, saving energy and saving money in the grand scheme of things.
And considering that all companies can benefit from going green regardless of size, a more eco-friendly approach seems to be the method of choice these days in the supply chain world. A recent article on Ecopreneurist.com entitled Three fresh ways to green you supply chain - better and faster provides a quick and painless guide to a better, faster and simpler supply chain. Here are the three steps author Olga Orda recommends.
