ASC X12 has made significant strides in repositioning their go forward strategic focus to ensure support for every industry over the past year. Recent changes has included sponsoring conferences, partnering on best practice models for secure data exchange and focusing on automating processes, not just exchanging data.
The June Trimester acknowledges the 50th Anniversary of the Berlin Air lift, which was the first real use of electronic data exchange, albiet less structured. The change in X12’s mission is in direct response from industry requirements and the changes which have happen in business since the organization was originally launched in 1979 due to the increasing requirements for B2B automation and standardization of messages.

Inovis actively supports regional user groups and 2008 represents a new opportunity to work with NEECOM, a long standing user group which many of our customers participate in and Inovis has supported for many years. NEECOM is the New England Electronic Commerce User’s Group for B2B and EDI professional and one of the largest in the nation. NEECOM is a great venue to meet others and see how they are tackling the challenges of operating complex supply chains which are compliant to their trading partner requirements and provide increased efficiency for their businesses.
Next week is NEECOM’s spring event and Inovis is looking forward to meeting our customers, their trading partners and the industry leaders who will be at the event to ensure we can bring back the lessons learned and share them our user community.

According to a new post on GreenerComputing, a recent survey reveals that green IT is becoming a much higher priority. The survey, 2008 Trends to Watch: Green IT, was given out by London market analyst Datamonitor and surveyed 245 CIOs and IT managers.
When asked about environmentally friendly computing, 75 percent of firms responded that it was an important part of their business, and 15 percent said it’s their top priority. Of the companies surveyed, one out of five companies reported already adopting greener methods, and 1/3 have plans to implement greener techniques in the future.
Do you think green IT will continue to grow?

Our second post of the day is from Greg Conant, Senior Product Architect III. Greg also went to COMMON and was kind enough to give us his take on the event.
I am glad I was able to attend COMMON’s 2008 Annual Meeting and Exposition in Nashville. COMMON is a fantastic way to keep in touch with the IBM midrange market. Considering that IBM keeps changing the name of the midrange hardware platform and its associated operating system, I feel it is important for all of us to keep in touch or we might get left behind. There were some really interesting things announced at this year’s IBM Town Hall Meeting including a brand new “Power” platform! The old System i and the old System p are being replaced with a new single “Power” platform. Additionally the i5/OS is being renamed to “i” for Business.
