With the fall event schedule starting to kick off for Inovis I been working a good deal of presentations for the upcomming events for myself and the rest of the team.   The fall schedule starts with EDI standards and industry user groups of ASC X12CSCMP and NEECOM events. Inovis will also be presenting/exhibiting at several key partner events for Pervasive and Infor.

I was actively working on my presentations around how B2B integration and effective supply chain communications not only reduces risks, but also have a VERY positive impact on the environment.  Below is a presentation on the greening of the supply chain with some basic ideas on how each of us can have an impact in our daily activities as B2B operations, development and supplier on boarding teams.

While $200 dollar oil never came to fruition, which clearly dates the presentation, a corporation’s processes and citizenship goals are important to helping mitigate risk in the marketplace for brands when it comes to supporting the emerging requirements of the green consumer.   The impact to the bottom line of automating processes, improving visibility around transportation and better managing inbound logistics is easily understood and with increased awareness around the environment, these benefits are also being commonly supported by business.

With the increasing activity around better managing the security of data in flight and at rest, Aberdeen is kicking off a survey which your input would certainly be helpful on.

If you are currently using FTP scripts, have multiple FTP servers or need to/have already deployed a managed solution for file transfer, then your input on trends and use cases in the industry would certianly be appreciated for this study.  Here is the link:

Thanks in advance for your input and participation on this industry study on how to better secure your supply chain, financial data and other sensitive information in your enterprise, such as HIPAA data.

Just after I was reading Jon’s post last week talking about the need for B2B transactions to be synchronized and not simply digitized, I received the latest copy of RFID Journal and was intrigued by the article on the last page by Kevin Ashton. Kevin was co-founder and Executive Director of the Auto-ID Center so has been with RFID since the very early days of the “hype cycle” and was talking about creating a “Google” for physical “things” that would utilize RFID to allow searching on a global basis for any item in any process within the supply chain. This concept of “ThingsNet” is not new but the spin Kevin put on it by extrapolating the “Google” capability to search and order global abstract information to an analogous capability for physical goods is very powerful.

After the All-in Scrum implementation at Inovis with 12 different Scrum teams launched across 6 different development sites, we were eager for some more Agile nourishment. Fortunately, the Agile 2008 Conference in Toronto afforded such an opportunity, so we rounded up some ScrumMasters and Product Owners and headed for the Canadian border.

Agile 2008 Conference Lobby

Themed after a music festival, Agile 2008 offered a daunting list of sessions. With over 30 happening simultaneously on different stages throughout the hotel, it was hard to cover the entire conference (although I tried real hard to). In the spirit of a music festival where participants learn from each other, let me share some of the things that I took away from Agile 2008.

Don’t Forget to Facilitate!

Jean Tabaka Leading Facilitation

Jean Tabaka (author of Collaboration Explained) ran an incredibly interactive session on facilitation tools and techniques. Along with some basic servant leadership skills (the mark of a skilled ScrumMaster), she had some excellent tips for better facilitation:
